In this week's readings, Hull and Moje wrote, "The Common Core Standards are in effect an attempt to change the kinds of literacy practices that are taught and valued in school." Although they are saying the Common Core attempts to change the kind of literacy practices taught in school (AKA broaden the curriculum to teach to multiple literacies), I found myself questioning if this attempt of the Common Core worked. I often find myself rather limited by the Common Core standards and what I am forced to focus on and sometimes find it hard to incorporate multiple literacy practices that solidly align with these standards.
Thoughts?
